She has obtained PhD degree in the field of Agriculture, Forest and Veterinary Science has been obtained at Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, Master of Science in Biology degree  at the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands.  She has researched the diversity of legume nodule forming bacteria in Latvia during her PhD studies. 

Her main scientific focus has been on microorganisms - identification of beneficial soil bacteria, as well as plant pathogenic fungi, using molecular biology methods. She studies plant physiology, mainly legumes, and their interactions with beneficial soil microorganisms. 

She has more than 10 years of experience working in molecular biology labortatories, that includes interships in University of Amsterdam, Wageningen Univeristy, and UTAD. 

She is the author or co-author of  9 publications indexed in SCOPUS, with the h-index of 5.
